The ghost of the taiga
Thanks to its large, fur-covered paws, the Siberian tiger can walk on snow as if it were wearing natural snowshoes.
Threats and conservation
Tigers are running out of space: in overpopulated India, a tiger has a territory 6 to 20 times smaller than its optimal living space. It is also threatened by poaching and conflict with humans. To protect it, nature reserves are created and managed, forests are patrolled and penalties have been toughened. Monitoring devices help to better understand the species, while education and awareness-raising complete these efforts.
Fun fact
Every tiger has a unique pattern of stripes, like a fingerprint! No two tigers share the same markings.
