Every night, geladas sleep on steep cliffs that can be several hundred metres high to escape predators.
Threats and conservation
The gelada is threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, agriculture and human pressure. To protect it, its habitat is being preserved and protected areas are being created. Population monitoring and informing the public also help to protect it.
Fun fact
The gelada is the only primate whose diet is 60% grass! Its specialised digestive system lets it draw nutrients from fibre-rich plants.
