The virtuoso of the canopy
It has a stomach with several compartments, a bit like a cow’s! This adaptation allows it to digest leaves, its favourite food, efficiently.
Threats and conservation
The guereza colobus is threatened by deforestation, hunting and forest fragmentation. To protect it, forests are being preserved and restored, protected areas are being created and surveillance has been stepped up. Local communities are also educated and involved in its protection.
Fun fact
Guereza colobus babies are born entirely white! Only as they grow do they acquire their striking black-and-white coat.
