The sprinter of the savannah
The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world. It can reach up to 110 km/h in just a few seconds!
Threats and conservation
The cheetah is threatened by habitat loss, hunting, poaching, declining prey and conflict with humans. To protect it, savannahs are being protected, corridors are being created and laws against poaching have been strengthened. Suitable livestock practices are encouraged to reduce conflict with humans, and population studies and monitoring complete these efforts.
Fun fact
Unlike lions, the cheetah does not roar! It communicates with meows, purrs and even little chirps.
