The ghost of the tropical forests
The clouded leopard has very flexible ankles that allow it to climb down trees head first, like a squirrel. This ability is rare among big cats.
Threats and conservation
The clouded leopard is threatened by habitat loss, poaching, illegal trafficking and forest fragmentation. To protect it, tropical forests are being protected and laws against poaching have been strengthened. Informing and raising awareness among local communities, along with population studies and monitoring, complete these efforts.
Fun fact
The clouded leopard has the longest canines (5 cm) relative to skull size of any cat!
