The sentinel of the forest!
A true lookout of the forest, the Diana monkey uses different calls to warn its group that a predator is nearby. Even other animals listen to its alarms to get to safety.
Threats and conservation
The Diana monkey is threatened by deforestation, hunting and forest fragmentation. To protect it, forests are being preserved and restored, protected areas are being created and surveillance has been stepped up. Local communities are also educated and involved in its protection.
Fun fact
The Diana monkey sports a very distinctive white moustache! Each individual has a unique facial pattern, rather like a fingerprint.
