Threats and conservation
The red-and-green macaw is threatened by deforestation, illegal trade and pollution. To protect it, tropical forests are being preserved and restored, and laws and controls against illegal trade have been strengthened. Population studies and monitoring, along with raising awareness among and educating local communities, complete these efforts.
Fun fact
Just as we do with our hands, the red-and-green macaw uses its feet to hold its food while eating!
