The little ghost of the forest
With its sharp incisors, the silvery marmoset cuts into the bark of trees to reach their sap and gum, a precious source of energy for it!
Threats and conservation
The silvery marmoset is threatened by deforestation, the fragmentation of its habitat and illegal capture for the animal trade. To protect it, tropical forests are preserved and protected areas are created. Breeding programmes in zoos also help to safeguard it.
Fun fact
The silvery marmoset can turn its head almost 180° to keep a better watch for danger!
